A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CARL EDWARD "ED" REA AND JUDITH WEISS "JUDY" REA FOR THEIR MANY YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS EDUCATORS IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND BEYOND, TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH THEM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state's most important legacy, its young people; and

Whereas, Carl Edward "Ed" Rea and Judith Weiss "Judy" Rea, who have served in private collegiate education as professors of music in the areas of piano, organ, and choral singing for over seventy-five years combined, stand among their number as outstanding public benefactors, both Reas being much admired in their roles as educators and leaders in the Christian community; and

Whereas, in addition to their positions as music educators, the Reas are published composers of organ, piano, and choral music. They have given countless hours, countless resources, and tens of thousands of dollars to guide students to successful careers in music, as well as to help and encourage younger generations to go out and make the world a better place; and

Whereas, the Reas regularly concertize and serve as adjudicators and instructors throughout the United States and the world in schools, churches, camps, and universities. Using their own time and money, they have ministered in churches in many countries, sharing the message of Jesus and their passion for education. The Reas have contributed positively nationally and internationally in the areas of music, education, missions, church work, and philanthropy Their main passion is to teach meaningful life skills with a Christ-centered focus to enable their students to live successful lives while serving the Lord wherever they are planted; and

Whereas, Ed and Judy have been known to purchase plane tickets for students who don't have money to go home; take students out to eat weekly; take them grocery shopping and buy their groceries; travel to hear student recitals and concerts in other states and countries on their own time and at their own expense; donate pianos to students, churches, schools, and universities; and make daily homemade goodies for their students in class settings and private settings; and

Whereas, these dedicated educators are loved around the world by thousands whose lives have been touched by them in special ways. After their retirement on May 3, 2019, from Greenville's Bob Jones University, where they are associate professors, Ed and Judy will head to San Francisco to teach at a music school. They plan to continue serving others and teaching nationally and internationally as long as the Lord gives them strength; and

Whereas, grateful for their faithful service and the legacy of excellence they have bestowed on this State, the House is pleased to add its collective voice of praise to the many tributes flowing in to Ed and Judy Rea. The members wish them God's best as they continue to run the race the Lord has set before them. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Carl Edward "Ed" Rea and Judith Weiss "Judy" Rea for their many years of distinguished service as educators in the State of South Carolina and beyond, congratulate them on the occasion of their retirement, and wish them much happiness and fulfillment in all their future endeavors.
