A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO SALUTE THE WANDO HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND FOR A SENSATIONAL SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THESE OUTSTANDING MUSICIANS ON WINNING THE 2019 SOUTH CAROLINA BAND DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, having prepared themselves for success, on November 2, 2019, at Irmo High, the members of the Wando High School marching band outplayed all comers to capture the 2019 South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) Class AAAAA state crown; and

Whereas, after many hours of dedicated, disciplined rehearsal, the Warriors marched off the field of competition with top honors and hardware only champions get to pack up and take home. It was, jubilant Warrior fans proclaimed, an especially proud moment for Wando because its marching band broke records while dominating the state 5A marching band competition; and

Whereas, Wando achieved an overall finals score of 95.65 with its performance of "Absentia." This twelfth championship is the most ever for any South Carolina 5A high school marching band. Wando's performance also won every caption category: music performance, visual performance, and overall effect; and

Whereas, Wando's marching band was named tops in the State for nine straight years, but in 2014, 2016, and 2018 the band did not appear at the state competition in order to pursue the Bands of America Grand National stage. At each of the band's latter appearances, Wando was named a Top 12 finalist, and in 2018 the school placed sixth overall. Returning to the state 5A competition this year, Wando once again has earned its place as state champion; and

Whereas, using his own considerable musical skills and training, Director of Bands Bobby Lambert forged a winning band program and taught these young musicians important lessons that will serve them well both on and off the marching field. Director Lambert was ably assisted by an excellent staff, including, among numerous others, Lanie Radecke and Jeff Handel, associate directors; and

Whereas, the House, proud of the group's commitment and success, takes great pleasure in honoring the Wando High School marching band for capturing the 2019 SCBDA 5A state title. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, salute the Wando High School marching band for a sensational season and congratulate these outstanding musicians on winning the 2019 South Carolina Band Directors Association Class AAAAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Sherry Eppelsheimer, principal, and Bobby Lambert, director of bands, of Wando High School.
