A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF MILDRED JANE FERGUSON "MILLIE" SAYE OF YORK COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Mildred Jane Ferguson "Millie" Saye at the age of ninety-three on Thursday, February 27, 2020; and

Whereas, born in Gastonia, North Carolina, on December 10, 1926, she was the daughter of Eunice Warlick and William Brown Ferguson, and she graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1944; and

Whereas, Mrs. Saye attended Winthrop Training School and worked as a secretary at Celanese from 1946 to 1954, where she met Jim Saye of Rodman, and they married in 1950; and

Whereas, on their first wedding anniversary, the young couple moved to their forever home on Sherwood Circle in Rock Hill and were happily married for sixty-three years until Mr. Saye's passing in 2013; and

Whereas, together they reared three fine daughters, Dr. Nan Saye of Rodman, Susan Saye Chappell of Columbia, and Rebecca Jo Saye Williams of Blythewood, and these children blessed her with the affection of six grandchildren: Hollis Infanzon, Mark Chappell, Jamie Chappell, Liza Marley, Caleb Williams, and Bekah Williams. She was blessed to see her loving legacy continue in three great-grandchildren: John Saye Infanzon, Mary Gardner Chappell, and Griffin Sentel Marley; and

Whereas, after staying home for many years and being the best homeroom mom at Oakdale Elementary School, Mrs. Saye returned to work as the assistant librarian at Castle Heights Junior High School from 1974 to 1979, and then she worked in sales at The Cobbler's Bench for eight years; and

Whereas, she was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill where she was the secretary-treasurer of the Women of the Church for twenty-two years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Saye was dedicated to her community and was a member of the Rock Hill Women's Club and the Pine Lakes Garden Club, and she was an avid bridge player with her group, "the NERDS"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Millie Saye and for the example of service and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Mildred Jane Ferguson "Millie" Saye of York County and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mildred Jane Ferguson "Millie" Saye.
