A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE CLARENDON HALL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2020 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO APPLAUD THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON ACHIEVING BACK-TO-BACK STATE TITLES.

Whereas, supremely ready for the challenge, the Clarendon Hall boys basketball team drove past Andrew Jackson 93-66 to capture top honors at the 2020 South Carolina Independent School Association 1A State Championship, held on Saturday, February 29, 2020; and

Whereas, the Sumter County Civic Center echoed with the cheers of exuberant Clarendon Hall fans as the Saints picked up their second straight state title; and

Whereas, referred to by some observers as the "Clarendon Hall Globetrotters," the Saints have won respect from both fans and competitors for their sheer talent, ability to work together as a team, and power to dominate and win; and

Whereas, the Saints put the title game away early, outscoring Andrew Jackson 29-10 in the first quarter, and they led 25-6 with 1:48 to go in the first period. Two-season team captain and senior point guard Zyan Gilmore and 6-4 senior forward Traveon Davis were on fire in the opening period, scoring 10 and 9 points, respectively, for the Saints. This 19-point first-quarter spring proved insurmountable for Andrew Jackson, and Clarendon Hall went on to win the next three quarters 64-56. This game featured dunks by both teams and numerous downtown three-point swishes from NBA range that kept fans on their feet throughout the game; and

Whereas, in sync, the Saints played with confidence and poise, placing four starters in double figures, led by Traveon Davis with 31 points, six rebounds, two steals, and three assists. In this game, the Saints shot nearly 50% from the floor and made 20 of 28 free throws on the tight rims of the civic center. Sophomore Kylic Horton, a 6-5 wing, scored 20 points, as did senior Jahnarious Snell, to aid in the offensive onslaught. Horton added a team-high 19 rebounds, while Snell added six rebounds and one assist; and

Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Head Coach Anthony Reitenour has built his boys basketball program into championship caliber and trained his athletes not to settle for second best; and

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in saluting the young athletes of the Clarendon Hall boys basketball team, and the members have confidence that the Saints will continue to excel in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Clarendon Hall boys basketball team on its impressive win of the 2020 South Carolina Independent School Association 1A State Championship and applaud the players and coaches on achieving back-to-back state titles.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Clarendon Hall Headmaster Kelly Wannamaker and Head Coach Anthony Reitenour of Clarendon Hall.
