TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF PHILLIP ELI WOODRUFF OF NEWBERRY COUNTY AND EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Phillip Eli Woodruff as the result of a tragic accident at the age of sixteen on Thursday, February 27, 2020; and
Whereas, born on October 8, 2003, Phillip was a son of Micheal D. Woodruff of Irmo and Renee Lindsey Mowder of Prosperity; and
Whereas, an active member of First Baptist Church of Newberry, he enjoyed participating in many church activities and currently appreciated being a part of the youth group; and
Whereas, a tenth-grade student at Mid-Carolina High School, Phillip also participated in Young Life of Newberry; and
Whereas, he enjoyed life, and his favorite activities included gaming, photography, playing billiards, and hanging out with friends. Phillip was a talented photographer, excelled at billiards, and made friends easily; and
Whereas, living life to the fullest, Phillip brought love and laughter to many: if easing the pain of others was a superpower, then Phillip could be called a superhero. His schoolmates at Mid-Carolina High School now have a saying, "Be kind...#PhillipKind"; and
Whereas, rather than exclude others because of their differences, Phillip lived in such a way that used differences to bring people together, as the means to connect with everybody; and
Whereas, left to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Micheal and Renee; his loving stepfather, Brian Mowder; his devoted brothers, Jacob "Jake" Woodruff and Blake Mowder; his adoring grandparents, Deborah and Kenneth Hollbrooks and Elsie Mowder and Larry and Phyllis Boutain; his great-grandparents, Jack and Jean Briggs and Gretchen Possinger Woodruff; and a devoted uncle Ryan Lindsey, along with many other aunts, uncles, and cousins; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and memory of Phillip Woodruff and for the example of joy and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Phillip Eli Woodruff of Newberry County and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Phillip Eli Woodruff.
