VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-29-17 SO AS TO REQUIRE A ONE-HALF CREDIT COURSE OF STUDY IN PERSONAL FINANCE WITH AN END-OF-COURSE EXAMINATION AS A REQUIREMENT FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION BEGINNING WITH THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 29, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-29-17. Beginning with the 2021-2022 School Year, each high school student shall complete a one-half credit course of study in personal finance as a requirement for high school graduation in place of existing economics coursework requirements. This coursework must include an end-of-course examination. The State Department of Education shall develop the curriculum for this coursework before July 1, 2021."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
