VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CHRISTIAN CAREY AS HE LEAVES HIS SERVICE AS A LAW CLERK IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE, TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS UPCOMING GRADUATION FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF LAW, AND TO WISH HIM GODSPEED IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Christian Carey will graduate from the University of South Carolina School of Law on May 7, 2021; and
Whereas, the son of Larry and Kristy Carey of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Christian graduated in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in political science from Northern Kentucky University. While a student at Northern Kentucky, he was co-captain of the men's soccer team; and
Whereas, Christian spent part of the summer of 2020 interning for the Honorable Robert E. Weir in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, where he observed and discussed hearings presided over by Judge Weir and conducted legal research for various hearings and cases; and
Whereas, in June 2019, Christian began clerking for the South Carolina House Ethics Committee, where he assisted with legal research and drafting of memoranda for Ethics Committee counsels, including the committee's advisory opinions; aided in the committee's notices for the debt setoff program; created Excel documents for the members' voluntary audits; and handled constituent matters. In his legal research, he thoroughly researched all issues. A dedicated law clerk, he worked to ensure an assignment was fully handled. Further, he served as a law clerk for the Judicial Merit Selection Commission screening; and
Whereas, during his law school career, he served on the Student Bar Association as a legislative member, as chair of the Philanthropy Committee, and as a peer mentor; and
Whereas, with deep appreciation for the fine service Christian Carey has rendered to the House Ethics Committee, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives celebrate the successful completion of his academic career and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Christian Carey as he leaves his service as a law clerk in the South Carolina House Ethics Committee, congratulate him on his upcoming graduation from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and wish him Godspeed in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Christian Carey.
