VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW UPON THE ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF ONE OF THE FIRST COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS OF A CITIZEN OF SOUTH CAROLINA, JOHN C. "JACK" WEST, JR., AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives wish to express their continued sorrow as they recognize and honor John C. "Jack" West, Jr., upon the one-year anniversary of his death on March, 25, 2021; and
Whereas, born and raised in Camden, Jack was the son of the late Lois Rhame West and John West, former Governor of South Carolina and United States Ambassador to Saudi Arabia; and
Whereas, after graduating from Camden high school in 1966, Jack continued his education at The Citadel. He served as senior class president and graduated as a member of the Class of 1970, having earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He went on to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law, earning his juris doctor in 1973. A gentleman of great distinction, Jack served in the United States Army for two years upon the completion of his collegiate education; and
Whereas, along with Ron Fulmer, Jack formed the State Capital Group, where he specialized in governmental affairs and relations involving the South Carolina General Assembly and state agencies on behalf of his clients. In his law practice, he represented domestic and international corporate clients with regard to various business and legislative issues; and
Whereas, as a man of faith, Jack was a member and former elder of Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden. He was also a community leader in his hometown, devoting his time and talents to others by serving on the advisory board for the First Community Bank in Camden, on the board of directors for Associated Charities and The Central Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross, the chairman of the board for the John C. West Forum at Winthrop University, as well as being the former chairman of the Kershaw County Airport Commission; and
Whereas, blessed with a loving family, Jack was married to his beloved wife of thirty-four years, Flonnie. Together, they welcomed into the world three fine children: P. Brice McKoy, Jr., Brodie E. McKoy, and P. Kenly McKoy. Together, they were gifted with eleven beautiful grandchildren to teach and appreciate; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives remember the life and legacy of Jack West one year after the date of his death and continue to mourn for him alongside his family and many friends. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express the profound sorrow upon the one-year anniversary of one of the first COVID-19 related deaths of a citizen of South Carolina, John C. "Jack" West, Jr., and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John C. "Jack" West, Jr.
