A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR LANCASTER COUNTY SHERIFF BARRY FAILE FOR THIRTY-TWO YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN SOUTH CAROLINA LAW ENFORCEMENT AND TO EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE FOR THAT SACRIFICIAL SERVICE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to salute the exceptional service of Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile, who for many years consistently has proven to be a worthy role model to every law enforcement officer in this great State; and

Whereas, Sheriff Faile has made Lancaster County his life's work. In 1989, not long after completing high school, he joined the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office and worked his way up to chief deputy sheriff. Elected sheriff in 2008, he embarked on a term of service in that office that would see him reelected three times to date, most recently in 2020 to a fourth term; and

Whereas, during his watch as sheriff, Lancaster County has grown rapidly, with the county's population growing by over thirty percent since he first was elected; and

Whereas, instead of simply keeping up with this rapid growth, Sheriff Faile has worked to build a culture of excellence among the ranks at the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. This culture is exemplified by the re-accreditation of the office through the international Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Only nine of the state's forty-six counties have CALEA-accredited sheriff's offices; and

Whereas, moreover, for a third time the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office has won the Law Enforcement Agency of the Year Award from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association under Sheriff Faile's leadership; and

Whereas, over the years of Sheriff Faile's service, a number of individual employees of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office also have received statewide recognition, including Officer of the Year, awarded by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, and Detention Officer of the Year, awarded by the South Carolina Sheriffs' Association; and

Whereas, respected by his peers, as well as by those who serve under him, Sheriff Faile is a leader for South Carolina law enforcement. Long active in the South Carolina Sheriffs' Association, he has served as its president and is a longtime board member. He also has served as a board member for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association; and

Whereas, grateful for his impressive work on behalf of the citizens of the Palmetto State, the House takes great pleasure in applauding Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile and in wishing him much continued success in the years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile for thirty-two years of distinguished service in South Carolina law enforcement and express deep gratitude for that sacrificial service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sheriff Barry Faile.
