A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE AC FLORA HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE CLASS AAAA BASEBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that the AC Flora High School varsity baseball team clinched top honors by sweeping James Island Charter High School in the 2021 Class AAAA baseball state championship series; and

Whereas, AC Flora fans were treated to a brilliant display of the Falcon's skills as they defeated the James Island Trojans 10-0 in back-to-back games, winning the state championship title for the seventh time in program history and claiming their place as the fifth most winning program in the State; and

Whereas, the first game of the series, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at AC Flora High School's baseball field was a showing of the elite level talent that the Falcons had developed from the top of the lineup to the bottom. Defensively, the Falcons worked quickly and efficiently behind starting pitcher Grant Loggins to hold the Trojans to only two hits and set up Matthew Crews, who pitched in relief and struck out the final batter, for a shutout victory. The Falcon's batters scored ten runs on nine hits, led by Jack Reynolds and Blakely Bates, each with two hits; and

Whereas, Game 2, held at James Island Charter High School's baseball field on Thursday, June 3, 2021, required AC Flora to excel in the heart of the Trojan fan base. With a confidence built over a season of hard work and well-earned victories, the Falcons dazzled spectators as they built upon their success from the previous game. The defense was led by pitcher Davis Rivers, who allowed only two hits as he struck out six in a dominating performance, which earned him the win. Offensively, a solo home run by Max Childress in the top of the second broke open the run production for AC Flora in what would become another 10-0 win in only six innings. Junior shortstop Jack Reynolds was three-for-four with three RBIs. Tillman Geddings and Zander Buchan each had two hits, and Phillips Daniels added an RBI double; and

Whereas, throughout the season, the members of the AC Flora baseball team, led by coach Andy Hallett, performed consistently at an extremely high level, with a 29-4 season record, going 7-0 in the playoffs and outscoring their opponents 75-8, with five of those games won by a margin of ten or more runs, handily outmatching their opponents; and

Whereas, by developing a dedicated work ethic and chasing their goal of the state championship with an unmatched passion, the Falcons honored themselves, their coaches, and their community. Claiming Coach Hallett's five hundredth career win this season, and the school's seventh title in program history with great skill and an unrelenting desire to achieve bigger and brighter things, they honored the memory of their teammate junior Bailey Pratt, who died tragically in an accident the previous November; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the AC Flora Falcons have earned for their school and their community and look forward to hearing of their continued accomplishments in the seasons to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the AC Flora High School baseball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the Class AAAA baseball state championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Susan Childs and Coach Andy Hallett.
