A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE FORT MILL HIGH SCHOOL BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR COACHES ON WINNING THE 2021 CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Fort Mill High School boys cross country team experienced a banner year, much to the delight of their fans and the disappointment of their rivals. In ultimate testimony to their 2021 achievements, on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Sandhill Research and Education Center in Columbia, the Fort Mill boys cross country runners seized the Class AAAAA State Championship title; and

Whereas, finishing with 62 points, the Yellow Jackets edged out nearest competitor T.L. Hanna by 38 points and packed up hardware only champions get to take home; and

Whereas, having honed his players into a championship machine, Head Coach Lee Whitaker saw the fruit of his labors as the title trophy was hoisted; and

Whereas, top Fort Mill finisher Devon Sibley, a junior who's been a leader on the team all year, finished second in the race overall with a 16:03.35. He was closely followed by junior Evan Wey (fifth place, 16:13.72), senior Jackson Dawson (tenth place, 16:25.98), junior Evan Ickert (17:01.65), and freshman Isaac Campbell (17:04.69). The Yellow Jackets were rounded out by sophomores Tanner Long (17:38.19) and Liam Eident (17:43.50); and

Whereas, grateful for their excellence, the House takes much pleasure in recognizing the Fort Mill High School boys cross country team, and the members look with interest to learning of their future accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor the Fort Mill High School boys cross country team for a successful season and congratulate the team members and their coaches on winning the 2021 Class AAAAA State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Gales Scroggs and Head Coach Lee Whitaker of Fort Mill High School.
