A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ELDER EVA MAE ASHFORD AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Eva Mae Ashford at the age of seventy-eight on Thursday, August 4, 2022; and

Whereas, born in Winnsboro on December 20, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Ella Owens and Abraham Owens, Sr. Reared in a large and loving home with fifteen siblings, she attended Fairfield County Public Schools; and

Whereas, before her retirement, Mrs. Ashford worked in environmental services for many years; and

Whereas, a faithful member of Spiritual Praise Tabernacle Ministries, she served the congregation as an elder and a Sunday school teacher; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband of fifty-nine years, Levell Ashford, she reared seven children: Sandra Diggs, Tony Ashford, Terrance Ashford, Sharon Ashford, Melissa Pridgeon, Pamela Boyd, and the late Tonette Ashford; and

Whereas, a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Ashford was blessed by her children with twenty-seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Eva Mae Ashford and for the example of service and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Elder Eva Mae Ashford and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elder Eva Mae Ashford.
