A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BROOKLAND CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO HONOR THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA BOYS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the Brookland Cayce High School boys soccer team for winning the South Carolina Class AAA Boys Soccer State Championship on May 15, 2021 at Irmo High School; and

Whereas, this historic win marks the program's first state championship in school history; and

Whereas, in the championship game, Brookland Cayce High School defeated Daniel High School by a score of 4-2; and

Whereas, Brookland Cayce built a commanding three-goal lead in the first half, which Daniel narrowed by one point within the first five minutes of the second half; and

Whereas, with a little over two minutes remaining, Brookland Cayce sealed the win with its fourth and final goal; and

Whereas, in an impressive team effort, Eduardo Moisa Membreno led the Bearcats with three goals, also known as a hat trick; and

Whereas, Lawton Powers scored the third, game-winning goal in the first half of the game; and

Whereas, goalkeeper Davis Hoffman had eleven saves and, with the help of captain defender Mikey Hernandez, was able to stop Daniel's attack; and

Whereas, Lawton Powers, Cesar Bermudez Membreno, and Auston Duncan each had an assist that helped propel Brookland Cayce to the win; and

Whereas, the members of the team are Jon Simmons, Davis Hoffman, Htoo Thaw, Ra'Shawn Thornton, Auston Duncan, Angel Barrientos Reyes, Brayan Vazquez-Raygoza, Mikey Hernandez, Melvin Rivas Flores, Chaz Pierce, Humberto Pedraza, Lawton Powers, Eduardo Moisa Membreno, Ryan Edwards, Jorge Cojulun, John Allen Mower, Alex Cordoba, Bryan Desiderio-Vazquez, Alex Rivera, Brandon Jimenez Cortez, Cesar Bermudez Membreno, and Luke Long; and

Whereas, the Brookland Cayce High School boys soccer team has flourished under the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Matthew Drapeau and Assistant Coaches Dalton Sheeks, Taylor Smith, Moaz Rezk, Glen Peters, and Jackson Long; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Brookland Cayce High School boys soccer team has brought to its school and community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by the team and its talented athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Brookland Cayce High School boys soccer team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the South Carolina Class AAA Boys Soccer State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Brookland Cayce High School boys soccer team, Head Coach Matthew Drapeau, Athletic Director Rusty Charpia, and Principal Gregg Morton.
