A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE WILSON HALL GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM ON THEIR STELLAR SEASON AND TO SALUTE THEM FOR CAPTURING THE 2021 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, out to win, the Wilson Hall girls softball team played with great determination and spirit at the 2021 South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class 3A State Championship and captured the title in the deciding game of the best-of-three championship series; and

Whereas, the Lady Barons, having defeated Cardinal Newman 14-4, secured their fourth state title in eight years and finished the season with a 20-7 record; and

Whereas, notably, Wilson Hall and Cardinal Newman are used to facing off in May. The Lady Barons defeated Cardinal Newman to win the 2018 state championship, while the Lady Cardinals regained the crown in 2019. In 2020, COVID-19 ended the season early, but the two teams met once again on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Legion Field on the campus of Camden High School in a game called in six innings, due to the 10-run rule; and

Whereas, the Lady Barons opened the scoring with three runs in the first and ended the game with seven runs in the sixth to clinch their fourth state championship, all four earned within the last eight years; and

Whereas, Wilson Hall's Andi-Grae Wingate picked up the win as she allowed four runs as she went the distance on the mound. Amberly Way went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, and she drove in three. Ansleigh Epps and Sullivan Jarecki each had two RBI for the Lady Barons; and

Whereas, Head Coach Teresa Alexander drew on her own considerable talents and skills, molded her team members into champions, and proudly watched her players hoist the state title trophy. She was ably supported by her excellent assistant coaches, George Carruth, Emma Ayres, and Jerry Allred; and

Whereas, the journey to winning the state title required discipline, dedication, and teamwork, qualities that always will serve these young women well both on and off the field. With admiration, the House recognizes and applauds the outstanding work of the Wilson Hall girls softball team and wishes its members much continued success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Wilson Hall girls softball team on their stellar season and salute them for capturing the 2021 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 3A State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Fred Moulton and Head Coach Teresa Alexander of Wilson Hall.
