A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE LAMAR ISZARD, OWNER OF LAMAR'S FISH & CHIPS, FOR NEARLY FIFTY YEARS OF PROVIDING FABULOUS FOOD TO THE CITIZENS OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY; TO THANK HIM FOR HIS CONSISTENTLY OUTSTANDING SERVICE; AND TO EXTEND WARM WISHES FOR A HAPPY AND FULFILLING RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to honor Lamar Iszard, owner of Lamar's Fish & Chips in Georgetown, on the occasion of his retirement; and

Whereas, for almost fifty years, Lamar Iszard has been delighting the taste buds of diners from Georgetown and beyond who have enjoyed meals from his restaurant near the Highmarket Street-Merriman Road intersection; and

Whereas, in 2021, Mr. Iszard is retiring from Lamar's Fish & Chips and has sold the restaurant. He celebrated his forty-ninth year as a restaurant owner in July 2021; and

Whereas, Mr. Iszard, who is a member of Arnett AME Church, will be recognized at a special service at the church on Sunday, December 5, to honor him for his decades of dedicated service to Georgetown. The church service will be followed by a surprise celebratory march from the church to Lamar's Fish and Chips at 205 North Merriman Road as a joyful send-off for Mr. Iszard, as well as for his wife, Mrs. Annie Iszard; and

Whereas, cooking has been Lamar Iszard's life. Indeed, he started preparing food as a fifth grader. At that time, he was working in his dad's business, Iszard's Fish & Oyster Market, after it opened in 1954. He left the business from 1968 to 1972 while he served in the U.S. Air Force; and

Whereas, part of his time in the military was served in England, where he saw people eating fish and chips off newspapers. Such culinary experiences in that country inspired him to open his restaurant after completion of his military service; and

Whereas, while the name of the restaurant includes "fish and chips," another of Lamar Iszard's specialties has been creamy grits. Other favorites: fried flounder, fried spots, fried shrimp, and breakfast items; and

Whereas, he built his successful breakfast and lunch kingdom on the simple premise of giving whatever you do all you've got. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Lamar Iszard, owner of Lamar's Fish & Chips, for nearly fifty years of providing fabulous food to the citizens of Georgetown County; thank him for his consistently outstanding service; and extend warm wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lamar Iszard.
