A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO THANK JAMES V. "JAMIE" CAGGIANO, JR., FIRE CHIEF OF THE CITY OF GAFFNEY, FOR HIS PAST SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN SECURING THE STATEWIDE BENEFITS OUR FIREFIGHTERS SO RICHLY DESERVE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to salute James V. "Jamie" Caggiano, Jr., fire chief of the City of Gaffney, for his past service as president of the South Carolina Firefighters Association and for his leadership in helping obtain benefits for all South Carolina's dedicated firefighters; and

Whereas, Jamie Caggiano began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter with the Cowpens Fire Department in Spartanburg County when he was 18 years old. After graduating from Broome High School in 1990, he attended Clemson University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in applied economics in 1994; and

Whereas, after graduation, Jamie held several different positions in the private sector. However, he realized that he had a heart for serving people that could only be satisfied by working in emergency services. Jamie has worked as a 911 dispatcher, paramedic, and firefighter. He was chief of Cowpens Fire Department for eleven years. In March 2012, he was hired as fire chief for the City of Gaffney; and

Whereas, Jamie, who earned his Chief Fire Officer Designation through the Commission of Professional Credentialing, holds membership in the National Fire Chiefs' Association, in addition to his membership in the South Carolina Firefighters' Association. He serves on the latter organization's executive board and has just completed a term as president of the association. Further, he is on the board of directors of the South Carolina Firefighters' Foundation. This graduate of the South Carolina Firefighters' Association Leadership Institute and Junior Leadership Spartanburg recently graduated from the South Carolina Municipal Association Risk Management Institute and has served as a councilman for the Town of Cowpens; and

Whereas, away from his duties as fire chief, Jamie attends Sacred Heart Catholic Church with his daughter, Isabella, age 12. They enjoy vacations to Disney World and Clemson Tiger football games; and

Whereas, with gratitude, the House extends its collective voice of praise to this servant-hearted fire chief for his achievements and service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, thank James V. "Jamie" Caggiano, Jr., fire chief of the City of Gaffney, for his past service as president of the South Carolina Firefighters Association and congratulate him on his outstanding leadership in securing the statewide benefits our firefighters so richly deserve.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to James V. "Jamie" Caggiano, Jr.
