A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR EDWARD Y. "EDDIE" MURPHY, JR., DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR OF CHESTER COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND CHIEF OF THE LANDO FIRE DEPARTMENT, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER SIXTEEN YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly have learned that Edward Y. "Eddie" Murphy, Jr., began a well-deserved retirement on January 31, 2021, after sixteen years as the distinguished and highly-regarded department director with Chester County Emergency Management; and

Whereas, a forty-five-year veteran with the Lando Fire Department, Chief Murphy began a sixteen-year career with Chester County Emergency Management in January 2005; and

Whereas, before he assumed leadership of Chester County Emergency Management, the agency had three directors in four years, a lack of consistency which left the agency behind in many ways. His stable and reliable leadership helped to build an agency that would ultimately rival any in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, under Chief Murphy's steady hand, the agency successfully responded to numerous devastating disasters, including the Great Falls Mill Fire in 2006 that displaced some one thousand residents, the widespread storm-related power outages of 2011, the Bennett Landfill Fire of 2015, the ongoing COVID Pandemic, and the Carolina Poly Fire of 2020; and

Whereas, dedicated to his community and a faithful and active member of his church, he served as a past member of the Chester County Rural Fire Commission and past president of the Chester County Chiefs Association, and he has actively supported the Lewisville School athletic program; and

Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service to Chester County Emergency Management, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Eddie Murphy as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Edward Y. "Eddie" Murphy, Jr., Department Director of Chester County Emergency Management and Chief of the Lando Fire Department, upon the occasion of his retirement after sixteen years of exemplary service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Edward Y. "Eddie" Murphy, Jr.
