TO CONGRATULATE THE NEWBERRY ACADEMY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO HONOR THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A GIRLS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the Newberry Academy girls basketball team for winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A Girls State Championship on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Heathwood Hall; and
Whereas, this historic win marks the program's first state championship; and
Whereas, in the championship game, Newberry Academy defeated Patrick Henry by a score of 59-53; and
Whereas, the Newberry Academy girls basketball team has flourished under the leadership and guidance of Coach Barry Kesler; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Newberry Academy girls basketball team has brought to its school and community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by the team and its talented athletes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Newberry Academy girls basketball team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A Girls State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Newberry Academy girls basketball team, Coach Barry Kesler, and Headmaster Nicole May.
