A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. JAMES C. "JIM" MEZICK, FORMER SENIOR PASTOR OF LAKESIDE BAPTIST CHURCH, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER FIFTY-TWO YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE IN THE NORTH MYRTLE BEACH COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have learned that Dr. James C. "Jim" Mezick will begin a well-deserved retirement after fifty-two years of meaningful and distinguished Christian service, first as the senior pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church for thirty-two years and twenty more years of active Christian ministry in the North Myrtle Beach community; and

Whereas, in preparation for his life of ministry, Dr. Mezick earned a bachelor's degree at Auburn University in Alabama, a master's degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas, and a doctorate at Drew University in New Jersey; and

Whereas, in 1968, when Lakeside Baptist Church in North Myrtle Beach was twenty years old, Dr. Mezick became the congregation's senior pastor and served in that role until 2000, where he was loved and respected; and

Whereas, under his leadership, the church expanded its building program, increased staff, broadened and deepened its ministries, and encouraged many young people to enter Christian service; and

Whereas, a dedicated minister of the Gospel, he has led the Sunrise Service in Cherry Grove for the past fifty-two years; and

Whereas, as a vital part of North Myrtle Beach life since his retirement, Dr. Mezick has provided two more decades of meaningful Christian ministry in the community. He helped to establish an annual citywide Prayer Breakfast in which he participates. He has served as an interim pastor for area churches, led Bible studies every Tuesday, and provided meaningful invocations for many City Council meetings; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife, the former Genie Patterson, he reared three fine children: Jason, Holly, and Patterson. His children have blessed him with the affection of exceptional grandchildren; and

Whereas, grateful for his years of unparalleled dedication and spiritual leadership in North Myrtle Beach, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pleasure in extending best wishes to Jim Mezick as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. James C. "Jim" Mezick, former senior pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church, upon the occasion of his retirement after fifty-two years of exemplary service in the North Myrtle Beach community, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to James C. "Jim" Mezick.
