A house RESOLUTION

 

TO recognize aND honor B.D. LAPRAD for a remarkable career coaching wrestling and to congratulate him ON being INDUCTed INTO THE 2023 class of the south carolina chapter of the NATIONAL WRESTLING HALL OF FAME.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that B.D. LaPrad, former South Carolina wrestling coach, will be inducted into the South Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame; and

 

Whereas, Mr. LaPrad will be recognized as a Class of 2023 inductee at an awards banquet held on April 2, 2023, hosted by the state chapter. This prestigious honor is given for lifetime achievements in wresting; and

 

Whereas, Mr. LaPrad attended Trinidad State Junior College in Colorado as well as the University of Wisconsin. He began to make a name for himself in lacrosse and wrestling when he was in college. He was a two-time national qualifier in lacrosse, and an NAIA All-American and NAIA National Qualifier in wrestling. He later went on to earn a master's degree from the University of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, in his forty-year high school coaching career, Mr. LaPrad served as head wrestling coach in five different school settings, among them Bishop England High School (1974-1975), Irmo High School (1975-1992), Dutch Fork High School (1992-2003), Fort Dorchester High School (2003-2013), and River Bluff High School (2013-2015). He led Irmo (1979), Dutch Fork (2003), and Fort Dorchester (2007 and 2010) to state championships and multiple state runner-up performances; and

 

Whereas, Mr. LaPrad served as a member and past president of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA), and he was inducted into the SCACA Hall of Fame in July 2017. He served as director of the Palmetto State Games from 1986-1989 and as head coach of the State AAU Team and the State Junior World Team. In addition, he coached the SC North/South All-Star Coaches Classic for many years. He was also inducted into the Roanoke Valley Wrestling Association Hall of Fame in Virginia in 2011; and

 

Whereas, grateful for his many years of service in developing the sport of wrestling among the young men of South Carolina and for his excellence and integrity as a mentor to these young people, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in saluting B.D. LaPrad upon being named to this latest honor in a distinguished career. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor B.D. LaPrad for a remarkable career coaching wrestling and congratulate him upon being inducted into the 2023 class of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to B.D. LaPrad.
