A house RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Richard Martino, Sr., OF Horry COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Richard Martino, Sr., at the age of seventy-eight on March 22, 2023; and

Whereas, born in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 7, 1944, he earned a master's degree in accounting from Johnson and Whales University in Rhode Island; and

Whereas, in his early career, Mr. Martino was an accounting professor at Roger Williams University and then spent the majority of his life as a business consultant for dozens of different fields; and

Whereas, he spent nearly fifty-two years in Rhode Island, the Ocean State, before moving to Montville, New Jersey, where he spent the following twenty-two years.  While in Montville, he learned that he had a rare condition called cardiac amyloidosis, and he began treatment for this rare disease; and

Whereas, in 2019, Mr. Martino and his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Christine "Chris" Martino, decided to move Myrtle Beach to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren; and

Whereas, in Myrtle Beach, he was active in his local community and in the affairs of Horry County.  He enjoyed working with companies big and small, helping them to repair their "bottom line" or to work more efficiently; and

Whereas, a self-proclaimed amateur chef, Mr. Martino had a genuine passion for cooking, and he truly enjoyed nothing more than cooking a beautiful meal for his friends and loved ones; and

Whereas, he had three fine children: Richard Martino, Jr., Mark Maynard, and Jessica Kimmick.  He was blessed with the affection of three loving grandchildren: Elizabeth Martino, Jordan Kimmick, and Hunter Kimmick, as well as two great-grandchildren, Camron and Lilly Ann; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Richard Martino and for the example of service and friendship he set for all who knew him.  Now, therefore,
