A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HONORABLE ALFRED MAE DRAKEFORD, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CAMDEN, FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY SERVICE AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

 

Whereas, for twenty-six years, the City of Camden has enjoyed the benefit of the commitment, experience, and leadership of the Honorable Alfred Mae Drakeford, mayor of that charming city; and

 

Whereas, in preparation for her career, Mrs. Drakeford earned a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of South Carolina and completed more than thirty additional hours in her subject at the same institution. She retired as manager of quality and training from E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, Inc. in Lugoff after a career of thirty-three years; and

 

Whereas, beginning her public service in 2004 as the first African American woman to hold a seat on Camden City Council, Mrs. Drakeford served as a member of that body for nineteen years; and

 

Whereas, in 2016, Mrs. Drakeford was elected mayor of the City of Camden. It is a post she has filled with distinction; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Drakeford is also chair of the Santee Lynches Regional Council of Governments Board of Directors; and

 

Whereas, in the community, she is actively involved with numerous organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Kershaw County IMPACT, the Kershaw County Housing Partnership, and the Homeless Housing Committee. She is board chair of United Way, a member of the advisory board for Heritage Community Bank, a past president of the Camden Rotary Club, and a board member of the Municipal Association of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, an established leader within Kershaw County and Camden, Mrs. Drakeford has received many honors and awards, including the 2005 Humanitarian of the Year award for Kershaw County; and

 

Whereas, a devout Christian, Mrs. Drakeford is a lifetime member of St. John Baptist Church, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher, trustee, usher, missionary, and coordinator of activities for the youth of the church and community; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Drakeford is married to Ernest Drakeford, Jr., and together they have a daughter, Kimberly; a son-in-law, Reginald; and a granddaughter, Sydney Elise; and

 

Whereas, Alfred Mae Drakeford has bestowed a legacy of excellence and dedication on the people Camden and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Honorable Alfred Mae Drakeford, mayor of the City of Camden, for her many years of dedicated public and community service and wish her much success and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Alfred Mae Drakeford.
