A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE STOVER MIDDLE SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TIGERS ON WINNING THE 2024 MIDDLE SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Stover Middle School wrestling team captured the top prize at this year's middle school state tournament; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their delighted fans, the Stover Tigers packed up hardware proving they had just claimed their first-ever state wrestling crown. Further, for the first time in school history, Stover went home with multiple individual state championships; and

Whereas, state qualifiers were Brandon Ardis, Brayden Thompkins, Barry Bryant-Gainey, Aaron Garcia, and Billy Moore, while individual winners were Tyler McChesney (102 pounds, individual state champion), Shayne Ross, (120 pounds, individual state champion), Nathaniel Waltemath (114 pounds, state runner-up), and Logan Vinson (80 pounds, third place); and

Whereas, before the title competition, the Tigers had already garnered quite a list of accomplishments. They finished as team champions at the Wildcat Duals, Leopard Duals, Winter Wolf Rumble, and Carolina Invitational (team state champions for the latter), and they own a 19-1 season dual meet record; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands mental fortitude and individual excellence, Head Coach Matthew Mendelssohn and Assistant Coaches Eli McGee, Lorenzo McGee, and Brandon Vinson capitalized on their own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the mats; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition the Stover wrestlers have brought to their school and community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Stover Middle School wrestling team for a stellar season and congratulate the Tigers on winning the 2024 Middle School State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Chantelle Zimmer, principal, and Head Coach Matthew Mendelssohn of Stover Middle School.
