A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SGT. KIRK HANSON UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

 

Whereas, after thirty-eight years of exemplary service to his country and community, twenty-eight of those with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD), Sgt. Kirk Hanson will retire on June 8, 2026; and

 

Whereas, Sgt. Hanson started his career in service in 1988, when he served as a firefighter in the United States Navy aboard the USS Holland. He then served as a prison guard for over five years, before joining the NCPD, where he served for seventeen years as a school resource officer, protecting the students of Daniel Jenkins Academy in North Charleston. In this role he was highly respected for the support he showed to students and his ability to handle each situation with wisdom. He received an award for his years of service and dedication to the school; and

 

Whereas, he continued his work with the NCPD, being promoted to corporal and then sergeant. Along with his work for the NCPD, he has served his community for over twenty years working with many organizations, such as the Sunflowers of Hope Inc., to take care of unhoused and underserved families within the North Charleston community; and

 

Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service to the NCPD and his community, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pleasure in wishing him well as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried days ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Sgt. Kirk Hanson upon the occasion of his retirement after thirty-eight years of exemplary service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sgt. Kirk Hanson.
