A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE DEZIREE HODGE OF HARDEEVILLE ON THE OCCASION OF HER EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, on July 2, 2026, Deziree Hodge of Hardeeville will awaken to a milestone event: her eightieth birthday. She will have the pleasure that very day of being the guest of honor when friends and family come together at a festive birthday gathering to celebrate her eight decades of caring, gracious, and fruitful living ; and

 

Whereas, born on July 2, 1946, in the first half of the twentieth century, she has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the second quarter of the twenty-first century; and

 

Whereas, a lifelong resident of Hardeeville, Deziree Hodge came into this world the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Lee Brown, as did her only sibling, Tiny Mae Fox; and

 

Whereas, in God's good time, she wed Bennett Hodge Jr., and the couple enjoyed nearly sixty years together before his passing. She remains the proud and supportive mother of their son, the Reverend Dr. Anthony Hodge, and their daughter-in-law, the Reverend Dr. Sheila Elliott Hodge; and

 

Whereas, having earned her diploma at Jasper High School (Class of 1964), the young Deziree graduated from Jasper Vocational School, earning a certification as a nursing assistant, and from Beaufort Technical College, where she became a Certified Nursing Assistant; and

 

Whereas, she utilized her nursing skills at Jasper County General Hospital and in other home health settings as a Certified Nursing Assistant for more than thirty years. In addition, she served the Clemson Extension as a nutrition educator, working with younger homemakers with children, as well as with the elderly, for over fifteen years; and

 

Whereas, as a woman of faith, Deziree Hodge has served the Lord as a member of Fisher Chapel United Methodist Church since August 1959. She is an active member of the church's Women in Faith group, has been a church usher for many years, and also serves as a member of the church's hospitality ministry; and

 

Whereas, in short, Deziree Hodge's life's work has been rooted in quiet strength, generosity, and love and has shown forth in actions that have included church service, community outreach, and simple acts of kindness. She has built a legacy of steadfast nurturing and encouragement that continues to bless those who have known her; and

 

Whereas the South Carolina Senate takes great pleasure in honoring this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her eightieth birthday and takes further pleasure in joining with her family and friends to congratulate her on reaching this extraordinary milestone.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Deziree Hodge of Hardeeville on the occasion of her eightieth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Deziree Hodge.
