A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE Sally Karr Leonard ON THE OCCASION OF HER seventieth BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Sally Karr Leonard will celebrate this important milestone on October 8, 2026; and

 

Whereas, a native of Wadsworth, Ohio, Mrs. Leonard was born on October 8, 1956, to parents Donald Eugene Karr and Eva Underwood Karr. She is an alumna of Bob Jones Academy and Greenville Technical College, where she received her associate's degree in secretarial science in 1976. Her family moved from Ohio to Taylors in 1960, when she was a young child, and the Greenville area has been her home for more than sixty-five years; and

 

Whereas, a small business owner, Mrs. Leonard ran Karr Communications, a Greenville-area cellular communications company, from the late 1980s into the early 1990s. After the birth of her first son, Seth, she made the decision to close her successful business in order to become a full-time mother. She subsequently devoted herself to raising both of her sons, Seth and Mark, and was closely involved in their upbringing and education; and

 

Whereas, a civic leader, Mrs. Leonard has served with many community organizations, including serving as an ambassador for the Greenville Chamber of Commerce in 2010 and a member of the board of the Neighborhood Housing Corporation of Greenville in 2018. She has also been involved with the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce since 2019; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Leonard has worked as an underwriter for the nonprofit Christian ministry HIS Radio (WLFJ-FM) since 2013, developing relationships with local businesses and ministry partners whose support helps sustain the station. Over the years, she also has regularly volunteered her own time at HIS Radio events; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Leonard spent several months as the primary caregiver for her mother, Eva Underwood Karr, during her final illness, demonstrating her commitment to the care of her family. Mrs. Leonard's dedication allowed Mrs. Karr to remain in the comfort of her own home and ultimately to die peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by her family, at the age of ninety-four; and

 

Whereas, a devout Christian, she is a member of Grace Church in Taylors. She has served as an administrator for the women's ministry, and she frequently volunteers for other church programs and events; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Leonard is the mother of two children, Seth and Mark; a beloved mother-in-law to Stephanie and Brittany; and an active and loving "Oma" to three grandchildren; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate takes great pleasure in honoring Sally Karr Leonard at the celebration of her seventieth birthday and is pleased to join with her family and friends in congratulating her.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Sally Karr Leonard on the occasion of her seventieth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sally Karr Leonard.
