________

A concurrent RESOLUTION

to request the department of transportation name the portion of Old Stagecoach Road in the town of bethune in kershaw county from McLaughlin Road to Stephens Lane "Charlie and Pat Stephens Intersection" and erect appropriate signs or markers containing these words.

Whereas, areas adjacent to Old Stagecoach Road in the Town of Bethune in Kershaw County hold generations of history tied to the Stephens family; and

Whereas, Charlie Stephens was raised on this property, which was originally settled by his grandfather, Abraham Lincoln Stephens, and faithfully stewarded by his father, Plummer Elgin Stephens; and

Whereas, the Stephens family has lived, worked, and built their lives here for more than a century, instilling in each generation the values of faith, hard work, and service. Today, the property stands not only as a testament to their family's legacy, but as a symbol of the enduring spirit of South Carolina families that have shaped their communities with dedication and grace; and

Whereas, together with his wife, Pat Stephens, Charlie continued that legacy through their family business, Stephens Construction. Charlie brought strength and craftsmanship to the work as a builder, while Pat used her expertise as a realtor and her eye for design to guide clients through the homebuilding process; and

Whereas, their shared vision helped build more than homes, it built trust and community. Both Pat and Charlie humbly attribute every success to the Lord and have always acknowledged God as the true cornerstone of their lives; and

Whereas, they take great pride in their children, Paul and Julie Stephens, their beloved spouses, and their eight grandchildren, who continue to carry forward the family's values and legacy; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper, as a meaningful tribute to the past, present, and future of the Stephens family and to the enduring faith in God that has guided them every step of the way, to name a portion of highway in Kershaw County in honor of Charlie and Pat Stephens. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Old Stagecoach Road in the Town of Bethune in Kershaw County from McLaughlin Road to Stephens Lane "Charlie and Pat Stephens Intersection" and erect appropriate signs or markers containing these words.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
