A house RESOLUTION
To recognize and honor the life and contributions of Charles Thomas "Tommy" Hammond, to express deep appreciation for his friendship and service to Kershaw County, and to extend the sympathy of the South carolina House of Representatives to his family and many friends.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Charles Thomas "Tommy" Hammond of Camden on January 25, 2025, at the venerable age of eighty three; and
Whereas, born in Camden to Jesse Holland Hammond and Sarah Moseley Hammond, Mr. Hammond dedicated his life to service, friendship, and community leadership in Kershaw County and beyond; and
Whereas, a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in civil engineering, Mr. Hammond faithfully served the South Carolina Department of Transportation for forty-two years, culminating his distinguished career as the residence maintenance engineer of Kershaw County; and
Whereas, Mr. Hammond was a committed member of the Masonic family, including Kershaw Lodge #29, the Knights Templar, and the York Rite, exemplifying the highest standards of brotherhood, charity, and leadership; and
Whereas, devoted to the development of young people, Mr. Hammond coached baseball at Camden High School and for American Legion Post 17 from 1981 to 1988, impacting countless lives both on and off the field; and
Whereas, beyond his professional and civic contributions, Mr. Hammond was a passionate outdoorsman, a founding member of the C.T. Hammond Hunt Club, and an enthusiastic supporter of his beloved Gamecocks; and
Whereas, his legacy of kindness, mentorship, and leadership endures through his beloved family: his wife, Jennie Marshall Hammond; his sons, Charles Thomas Hammond, Jr. (Lee), Robert Lee Hammond (Julia), and Benjamin Holland Hammond (Laura); his stepsons, Marshall Delmer Munn (Angela) and Dwayne Bradley Munn (Christine); his twelve grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends, and former colleagues; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is grateful for Tommy Hammond's numerous contributions to Kershaw County and the State of South Carolina, and for the profound example of friendship and service he leaves behind. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the life and contributions of Charles Thomas "Tommy" Hammond, express their deep appreciation for his friendship and service to Kershaw County, and extend their heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends during this time of loss.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Thomas "Tommy" Hammond.
