________

The committee on House Invitations and Memorial Resolutions

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4444) to request the Department of Transportation name a one-mile portion of United States Highway 378 from the traffic circle in Saluda County west towards the Town of, etc., respectfully

Report:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:

DENNIS MOSS for Committee.

_______

A concurrent RESOLUTION

To request the Department of Transportation name a one-mile portion of United States Highway 378 from the traffic circle in Saluda County west towards the Town of Saluda "Fireman Landon 'Cale' Bodie Memorial Highway" and erect APPROPRIATE markers or signs at this location containing these words.

Whereas, Landon "Cale" Bodie was described as a truly genuine soul that left a mark wherever he went. Born February 13, 2006, the Saluda native was a 2024 graduate of Blythewood High School where he was a member of the Technical Honor Society, certified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, and played football; and

Whereas, a faithful member of the Future Farmers of America, Bodie had a true love for the outdoors and agriculture. With skills acquired from his grandfather since age two, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. A passion for working with his hands led him to spend countless hours alongside his grandfather, Wayne Bodie, honing his carpentry skills and creating cherished memories; and

Whereas, a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Bodie had a strong faith in the Lord and was known to always have his pocket Bible with him wherever he went. From the tender age of five he had a passion to serve others and wanted to become a firefighter; and

Whereas, Bodie joined the Circle Volunteer Fire Department after graduation at the age of eighteen and became a devoted and dedicated firefighter. He was proud to serve his community in this capacity and in other endeavors as needed; and

Whereas, in late September 2024, Hurricane Helene, a deadly and devasting cyclone, swept through the Southeastern United States causing widespread catastrophic damage. While answering a Helene-connected service call in Saluda County on September 27, Bodie and Chief Chad Satcher were tragically killed when a tree fell on the cab of their fire truck; and

Whereas, Landon "Cale" Bodie lost his life in service to others and will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. It is only fitting proper that this native son of the Palmetto State, who gave his life in service to others is remembered by having a portion of United States Highway 378 named in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name a one-mile portion of United States Highway 378 from the traffic circle in Saluda County west towards the Town of Saluda "Fireman Landon 'Cale' Bodie Memorial Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing these words.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
