A house RESOLUTION
to recognize and honor S. Isaiah "ike" Holman, deacon of Mount Zion Church, and to commend him for his years of faithful service to his church.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors dedicated churchmen, like Deacon Ike Holman, for their devotion to their God; and
Whereas, the son of the late Bina Brown Holman, he attended the public schools of Calhoun County and graduated from John Ford High in 1960. After graduating, he moved to Far Rockaway, New York, and worked for Clean and Brite Cleaning Service; and
Whereas, Deacon Holman entered the United States Army and later became a National Guardsman, retiring with twenty-two years of distinguished military service. He also retired from Albemarle Chemical Company in Orangeburg with twenty-seven years of service; and
Whereas, dedicated to making his home, church, and community the best that it can be, he is a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Fort Motte where he serves as a deacon, a board member of Calhoun County Resources Inc. and a life member of the Calhoun County NAACP Branch #5499, and he has served on many other boards and commissions through the years; and
Whereas, a quiet and gentle man, Deacon Holman has worked with many political campaigns and assisted elected officials to attain various offices and positions. He was very instrumental in the efforts to get clean water to the Fort Motte area and the repurposing of John Ford School into a community center; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Octavia Johnson Holman, he reared three fine daughters, and they have blessed him with the affection of seven loving grandchildren; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for his years of service to his home, his church, and his community, and joins with his friends and family in saluting Ike Holman, deacon of Mount Zion Church. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor S. Isaiah "Ike" Holman, deacon of Mount Zion Church, and commend him for his years of faithful service to his church.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to S. Isaiah "Ike" Holman.
