VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE ROSEWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY, TO COMMEND THE SCHOOL ON ITS MANY ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE PAST CENTURY, AND TO WISH ITS STUDENTS, FACULTY, ADMINISTRATORS, AND ALUMNI WELL AS THEY CONTINUE TO HOLD HIGH THE FOUNDING STANDARDS OF ROSEWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives notes with pleasure that Rosewood Elementary School of Richland County School District One is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary this year; and
Whereas, for a century, Rosewood Elementary School has stood at the heart of one of Columbia's most vibrant neighborhoods, serving as a place of learning, tradition, and community pride. This year, the school is celebrating its centennial with a slate of special events designed to honor its past and inspire future generations of Eagles; and
Whereas, when Rosewood Elementary opened its doors in 1926, it did so at a time of rapid neighborhood growth following World War I. The original two-story building welcomed just over two hundred students. As Columbia expanded, so did Rosewood's student body, which eventually grew to more than six hundred children in the mid-20th century. Today, Rosewood continues to serve hundreds of young learners each year, carrying forward its legacy of excellence in education and community spirit; and
Whereas, to mark the occasion, Rosewood has launched the "$100 for 100" campaign. Families, alumni, and community members are invited to give one hundred dollars in honor of the school's one hundredth year. In recognition, each donor will have his or her name (or the name of the donor's designated honoree) included on a large gold star displayed prominently in the school's main hall throughout the year. These stars will serve as a visible reminder of the support and gratitude that has surrounded the school for a century; and
Whereas, the school also will host historical exhibits showcasing photographs, artifacts, and stories from its earliest days through today. Former students and faculty will be invited to share memories, giving voice to the generations who have shaped, and been shaped by, Rosewood; and
Whereas, adding to the excitement, Rosewood Elementary was selected as a featured stop on the Annual Tour of Homes in the Shandon and Hollywood-Rose Hill neighborhoods. This recognition placed Rosewood alongside some of Columbia's most iconic residences, underscoring its significance not only as a school but also as a landmark of architectural and community history; and
Whereas, grateful for the contributions of Rosewood Elementary School toward the education of South Carolina's most precious resource, its youth, the House is pleased to congratulate the Rosewood Eagles on reaching this important milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Rosewood Elementary School of Richland County School District One upon the occasion of its one hundredth anniversary, commend the school on its many achievements over the past century, and wish its students, faculty, administrators, and alumni well as they continue to hold high the founding standards of Rosewood Elementary School.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Christopher Lyons of Rosewood Elementary School.
