A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF EBONY F. BOWERS OF LEXINGTON AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the passing of Ebony Flemming Magni Bowers, Ph.D., of Lexington on January 16, 2026, at the age of forty-five; and
Whereas, born on July 12, 1980, Ebony was a graduate of Lexington High School's Class of 1998, Midlands Technical College, and Walden University. She served as student body president of her graduating class and as a student trainer for the Lexington Wildcats. She also played basketball for Lexington Middle School; and
Whereas, over the course of her career, she served as a director of the K.E.Y.S. (Keeping Every Youth Safe) After-School Program with the Town of Lexington Police Department. In addition, she was co-founder of P.O.P.P. (Positive Opportunities for Pageant Preparation) in Lexington, as well as a recent member of the Rainbow Warriors; and
Whereas, academically, Dr. Bowers served as a Midlands Technical College professor and was vice president of student affairs at Knoxville College in Tennessee; and
Whereas, II Timothy 4:7 describes Ebony Bowers' life journey: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Constance Caractor Flemming; her father, the Reverend J.M. Flemming Sr.; her daughters, Selena Rose Magni and Shayla Elizabeth Bowers; her sisters, Tonjalyn Cokley and Sheretta Thomas; her brothers, Melvin Hardin, Rodrecus Flemming Sr., Ranando Flemming, Davit Gooseby, Johnny Burns, J.M. Flemming II, and Emanuel Flemming; and a host of other family members and friends, all of whom will miss her radiant smile, kindness, and wonderful sense of joy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Ebony F. Bowers of Lexington and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
