A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHESNEE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AA-A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Chesnee High girls golf team of Spartanburg County captured top honors again to take home the state trophy from the state golf tournament held at the Chester Country Club October 28, 2025; and

Whereas, to the thrill of their faithful fans, the Chesnee Lady Eagles defeated a competitive field of rivals, besting their nearest challenger, Atlantic Collegiate Academy, by a score of 346-349 to win the team's fifth consecutive state title; and

Whereas, the Chesnee team knew that the 2025 state title would not be an automatic win. When day one of the tournament was rained out, the team was forced to play the championship over one 18-hole day. The Lady Eagles demonstrated exceptional mental toughness by competing in unfamiliar and challenging conditions, enduring freezing temperatures and steady rain throughout the day; and

Whereas, at the end of the front nine holes, Chesnee trailed Atlantic Collegiate by 14 shots. The Lady Eagles rallied, and senior Abby Herrington parred three of her last four holes to give the Lady Eagles a shot; and

Whereas, coming to the last hole of the eighteen holes, Chesnee was tied with Atlantic Collegiate, and eighth-grader Amelia Shields was the only golfer still on the course for the Lady Eagles. She hit onto the green with a five wood from 160 yards out and took two putts to sink the ball. The last putt gave Chesnee a three-point lead to win the championship; and

Whereas, Chesnee was led on the course by senior Jada Flynn who shot a personal best score of 71 and played a huge role in the Lady Eagles' rally as she tallied off three of her four birdies of the day on the back nine at tenth, eleventh, and fourteenth holes to finish second in the overall standings; and

Whereas, Jada Flynn was joined on the All-State team by fellow senior Abby Herrington and eighth-grader Amelia Shields who came away with a seventh and eighth place finish after shooting scores of 88 and 91 respectively; and

Whereas, the state match ended the golf careers of three Chesnee seniors who have all led the team at different points this season and earned their fifth straight state championship: Jada Flynn, Abby Herrington, and Abigail Watson; and

Whereas, as the Lady Eagles head into next year with no returning seniors, the three young golfers returning, Amelia Shields, along with sophomores Katie Hawk and Alaina Littlejohn, will have an opportunity to set the bar high for new teammates; and

Whereas, in a sport that exacts strategy and measured strength, Head Coach Kyle Scruggs and his dedicated coaching staff used their own athletic experience and passion to hone another championship team and teach these athletes life principles that will endure beyond the greens; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Chesnee golfers have brought to their school and their community. The members anticipate following the team's continued accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Chesnee High School girls golf team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Class AA-A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Steven Fusaro and Coach Kyle Scruggs.
