A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MJ COLLINS JR., A NATIVE OF CLOVER, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL ACHIEVEMENTS, HIS REPRESENTATION OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA ON A NATIONAL STAGE, AND HIS ROLE AS A POSITIVE AMBASSADOR FOR HIS HOMETOWN, COMMUNITY, AND FAMILY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in recognizing individuals who bring honor and distinction to the State of South Carolina through dedication, perseverance, and outstanding accomplishments; and
Whereas, MJ Collins Jr. was born and raised in Clover, South Carolina, and has strong connections to the historic Roosevelt community, whose legacy of resilience and unity has shaped generations of young people; and
Whereas, he also played part of his high school basketball career at Westminster Catawba Christian School in Rock Hill, showcasing his talent and dedication within South Carolina; and
Whereas, MJ is the son of Michael and Shonterra Collins, the proud parents who supported his development both on and off the court; and
Whereas, this young man has had an exceptional collegiate basketball career, competing at the highest levels across the ACC (Virginia Tech), SEC (Vanderbilt), and Mountain West (Utah State); and
Whereas, during the 2025-2026 season with the Utah State Aggies, MJ Collins led the team in scoring and earned numerous honors, among them the Charleston Classic Most Valuable Player (Lowcountry Bracket), for leading the Aggies to a tournament championship; Old Trapper Mountain West Player of the Week, a recognition that highlighted his 40-point performance against Davidson; Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, a national recognition for dominant performances; Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week, due to his multiple awards for scoring excellence and leadership; and
Whereas, MJ also achieved All-ACC Academic Team honors during his ACC career, demonstrating excellence in both academics and athletics; and
Whereas, moreover, he helped lead Utah State to the Mountain West regular-season championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance, thus bringing honor to his hometown, the Roosevelt community, and the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, through his achievements and character, MJ Collins has served as a positive role model for young athletes and a proud ambassador for South Carolina both on and off the basketball court. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor MJ Collins Jr., a native of Clover, for his outstanding collegiate basketball achievements, his representation of the State of South Carolina on a national stage, and his role as a positive ambassador for his hometown, community, and family.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to MJ Collins Jr.
