A house RESOLUTION
to EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Cobb OF York COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Dorothy Cobb at the age of eighty-six on April 14, 2026; and
Whereas, born in Sharon on March 11, 1940, she was the daughter of Eugenia McCleave and John Richard Feaster and was educated in the York School District. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1959 and dedicated over thirty years of service to the York School District as a teacher's aide and an ISS proctor; and
Whereas, known for her firm but caring nature, her classroom earned the nickname "Cobb County," a testament to her reputation as a strict disciplinarian who deeply cared about her students' success. Mrs. Cobb retired in 2005; and
Whereas, at an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Sharon during her youth, and moved to Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York; and
Whereas, Mrs. Cobb served the congregation on the usher board at St. John Baptist and as assistant secretary of the Hymn Choir and chairman of Pastor Aide at Fishing Creek Baptist; and
Whereas, devoted to her community, Mrs. Cobb was a member of the Optimist Club and Shepherd Fold Lodge #22 of the A P & B Society and a life member of the Western York County NAACP. She remained actively involved in community affairs throughout her life and was well-known and respected by many for her strength, wisdom, and unwavering presence; and
Whereas, she especially loved to play Bid Whist, and seek and find puzzles, read books, listen to church music, contribute to the community back-to-school drive, and dance. Many friends enjoyed the delicious honeybun cakes she made for those in the community. Mrs. Cobb was a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Dot Cobb and for the example of service and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Cobb of York County and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Cobb.
