A house RESOLUTION

to recognize and honor the members of the Marine Corps League Department of South Carolina for their important role in the Palmetto State and to welcome their conferees for their state convention in Columbia.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Marine Corps League Department of South Carolina will hold its 2026 convention in Columbia on June 11-14; and

Whereas, the Marine Corps League was founded in 1923 by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, then Major General John A. Lejeune. On August 4, 1937, the United States Nineteenth Congress congressionally chartered the organization as a veteran service organization. It maintains a nonprofit status with the Internal Revenue Service with special tax exemption; and

Whereas, the mission of the Marine Corps League is to promote the interest and to preserve the traditions of the United States Marine Corps; strengthen the fraternity of Marines and their families; serve Marines and FMF Navy Personnel who wear or who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor; and foster the ideals of Americanism and patriotic volunteerism; and

Whereas, the league is the only federally chartered Marine Crops-related veterans' organization in the country. Since its earliest days, the league has enjoyed the support and encouragement of the active duty and reserve establishments of the Marine Corps; and

Whereas, the league boasts a membership of more than sixty thousand people: officers and enlisted, active duty and reserve Marines, honorably discharged Marine veterans, and qualified FMF Navy personnel; and

Whereas, the Marine Corps League Department of South Carolina was established in 1993 and currently has a membership of more than one thousand and supports programs and efforts related to Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Leadership Awards, Toys for Tots, Young Marines units, and scholarships; and

Whereas, the Marine Corps maintains a significant presence in the State of South Carolina, and the majority of the members of the department were either trained at Parris Island or were stationed at other locations for duty throughout the State; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives values the significant presence and volunteer service of the Marine Corps League in the State and wish its members continued success at the 2026 convention in Columbia. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the members of the Marine Corps League Department of South Carolina for their important role in the Palmetto State and welcome their conferees for their state convention in Columbia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Marine Corps League Department of South Carolina.
