A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE ORANGEBURG COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE FINE ACHIEVEMENTS OF ITS CAREER/TECHNICAL STUDENTS AT THE 2025 SKILLSUSA CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TO WISH THE PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR INSTRUCTORS MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that students of the Orangeburg County School District came home with some of the nation's highest career and technical awards from the SkillsUSA Championships, held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 25-26, 2025; and
Whereas, more than six thousand five hundred students competed at this national showcase of career and technical education. The SkillsUSA Championships event is the largest skill competition in the world and covers 1.79 million square feet, equivalent to thirty-one football fields or forty-one acres; and
Whereas, first-place state winners are invited to the event to demonstrate their technical skills, workplace skills, and personal skills in one hundred fourteen hands-on competitions, including robotics, automotive technology, drafting, criminal justice, aviation maintenance, and public speaking; and
Whereas, the SkillsUSA Championships event is held annually for students in middle school, high school, or college/postsecondary programs as part of the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference. This national nonprofit partnership of students, instructors, and industry is a verified talent pipeline for America's skilled workforce that is working to help solve the skills gap; and
Whereas, the following Orangeburg County School District students received a SkillsUSA Championships medal or Skill Point certificate: Team A, consisting of Malachi Jean, Duane Butler, and Aden Foster from Orangeburg Technology Center, was awarded the gold medal in the National Leadership and Skills Competition for Middle School Chapter Display; Bristol Gray, a student at Cope Area Career Center, was awarded a Skill Point certificate in power equipment technology; and Team J, consisting of Alexandra Villeda, Hayward Jean, and Jayden Bookhart from Orangeburg Technology Center, was awarded a Skill Point certificate in Chapter Display; and
Whereas, because skilled trades are the foundation for all economic development, the House is especially proud that these career/technical students of the Orangeburg County School District have been recognized as among the best in the nation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Orangeburg County School District on the fine achievements of its career/technical students at the 2025 SkillsUSA Championships and wish the participants and their instructors much continued success.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Shawn Foster, superintendent, and students Malachi Jean, Duane Butler, Aden Foster, Bristol Gray, Alexandra Villeda, Hayward Jean, and Jayden Bookhart of the Orangeburg County School District.
