A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR COLUMBIA NATIVE MATRICK MONDRE "TRICK WILLIAMS" BELTON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING AND FOR HIS ROLE AS A POSITIVE AMBASSADOR FOR HIS HOMETOWN, COMMUNITY, STATE, AND FAMILY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in recognizing individuals who bring honor and distinction to the State of South Carolina through dedication, perseverance, and exceptional accomplishments. Professional wrestler Matrick Mondre "Trick Williams" Belton is an exemplar of such individuals; and
Whereas, Matrick Mondre Belton was born on May 26, 1994, in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of Monica and Patrick Belton. Excelling in athletics since childhood, he attended Keenan High School, where he played basketball and football, accumulating 1,157 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior before graduating in 2012; and
Whereas, the young Matrick then attended Hampton University and played on a full scholarship for the Hampton Pirates in 2012 and 2013, the latter season being cut short due to a pulled hamstring. He abandoned his scholarship to walk on to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks team (USC being his father's alma mater) from 2014 to 2016, where he also played alongside his brothers André and Hassan. He caught 11 passes for 121 yards during his college career, all of which came in 2015. In December 2016, he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in physical education; and
Whereas, in 2018, Matrick Belton began his professional wrestling career under the ring name "Sweet Daddy Trick" (selected in honor of his uncle, whose nickname it was) when he trained with his uncle in Philadelphia. Belton then signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in February 2021 and debuted in September of the same year under the Trick Williams ring name; and
Whereas, on April 19, 2026, Belton became the WWE United States Champion after defeating Sami Zayn in Paradise, Nevada; and
Whereas. Matrick Belton is also a two-time NXT Champion, a NXT North American Champion, and he was the winner of the 2023 Men's Iron Survivor Challenge. He won the TNA World Championship, his first world championship, in May 2025 and became the first WWE-contracted wrestler to win a TNA championship; and
Whereas, through his fine achievements, Matrick Belton has served as a positive role model for young athletes and a respected ambassador for South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Columbia native Matrick Mondre "Trick Williams" Belton for his outstanding achievements in professional wrestling and for his role as a positive ambassador for his hometown, community, State, and family.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Matrick Mondre "Trick Williams" Belton.
