A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE RECENT WILSON HALL GRADUATE FORD WILDER UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS SIGNING TO PLAY BASKETBALL FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AS HE PURSUES BOTH ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Ford Wilder, a recent graduate of Sumter's Wilson Hall, has signed to play basketball for the University of South Carolina (USC); and
Whereas, an outstanding student and a three-sport standout at Wilson Hall, Ford Wilder played football and basketball and also competed in track and field over the course of his high school years; and
Whereas, this triple threat could have pursued that third sport at Wofford, but basketball, his favorite sport, remained an option at USC, his #1 college choice; and
Whereas, the USC option became a reality the day Ford Wilder signed a financial-aid agreement as a new scholarship athlete to play basketball for Head Coach Lamont Paris and the USC Gamecocks. Ford's response to this honor was grateful acknowledgment of God's providence, exercised on his behalf: "I can't thank the Lord enough for putting me in this opportunity to compete and get better every day"; and
Whereas, during his career with the Wilson Hall Barons, Ford scored more than 1,300 points. His senior year saw him average 23 points per game; and
Whereas, moreover, he was honored as a News19 Player of the Week, and later, in May, he was named a News19 Player of the Year; and
Whereas, with great pleasure, the House salutes Ford Wilder on his most recent accomplishments, and the members look with interest to hearing of his further achievements. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate recent Wilson Hall graduate Ford Wilder upon the occasion of his signing to play basketball for the University of South Carolina and wish him much success as he pursues both academic and athletic excellence in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ford Wilder.
