VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

A Senate RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS homecoming and its one hundred eighteenth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND the church FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE Calhoun COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church as it celebrates this important milestone; and

Whereas, Mount Zion was organized in the early 1900s and the church's members worshiped under a brush arbor until 1914, when church members bought a parcel of land and built a church. Mount Zion was rebuilt in 1954; and

Whereas, under the pastorate of the Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Hunter, the church engages and encourages others through a life-changing journey. The church's mission is to nurture a diverse and welcoming community, committed to following fearlessly wherever God leads them, and to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of Calhoun and the world; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the dedication and commitment of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church to serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church upon the occasion of its Homecoming and its one hundred eighteenth anniversary and commend the church for its many years of dedicated service to the Calhoun community and the people and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the pastor of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Hunter.
