TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE BRANDY "BEASY BAYBIE" HENSHAW ON HER EXCEPTIONAL RADIO HOST CAREER AND HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO COUNTLESS COMMUNITIES ACROSS SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Brandy Henshaw was born in a small town in West Virginia spending most of her adolescent years in foster care and group homes in Reading, Pennsylvania, which would later influence many of her service efforts. She began her radio career in Charlotte, North Carolina as executive producer and radio personality for WGIV's "The BJ Murphy Morning Show," later moving to Columbia, South Carolina to do the midday show for WHXT before being promoted to the Afternoon Drive position, where she held the title of #1 Radio Show  for five plus years; and

Whereas, she developed many valuable connections which allowed her to do segments for many news brands in the city, including WACH Fox, WLTX, WIS, and ABC Columbia, as well as covering many major award shows like the BET awards, the Hip Hop Awards, the Social Awards, and being the face of many red carpets for major box office hits like "The Bobby Brown Story" and "The New Edition Story"; and

Whereas, Brandy Henshaw has been recognized many times in her career, being listed as one of the world's "Great Black Speakers," being recognized by Who's Who in America, and being honored as Radio Ink's "Future African American Leader in Radio." She is also a Gracie Award winner, which is considered the highest journalistic recognition; and

Whereas, Brandy is married to CoreyJon Nowell-Brown and is a mother to four girls and a bonus mother to three more children. Brandy is also the author of three books, "That Night I Died," "Conv;cted: The Beasy Baybie Story," and "Jesus & Coffee"; and

Whereas, as the creator of Operation We Got Us, a community aid and outreach organization, she has led disaster relief efforts, supported foster children, aided imprisoned communities, assisted families facing housing instability, and organized annual outreach initiatives for underserved communities throughout South Carolina; and

Whereas, Brandy regularly visits local schools, detention facilities, and universities as a motivational speaker. She has organized donation drives to aid disaster relief for communities around the country, gathered donated books for local prisons, as well as clothing for women being released from prison. She has created annual events for the underserved on both Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as providing foster children with Christmas gifts from their wish lists. She has fundraisers often to help families suffering from evictions to stay in their homes comfortably and has successfully prevented many evictions for single mothers; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate value the way that Brandy "Beasy Baybie" Henshaw exemplifies leadership and civic impact through her continued commitment to service, mentorship, and advocacy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:
