A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CHIEF BOBBY SCOTT BAKER UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS FORTY-ONE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD. 

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Chief Bobby Scott Baker upon the occasion of his retirement from the Taylors Fire Department; and

 

Whereas, a native of Greenville County, Chief Baker was born on September 7, 1964.  He is the son of Mary Baker and the late Edward Eugene Baker Jr.  He graduated from Riverside High School in 1982; and

 

Whereas, in June1983, he began his service as a volunteer with the Taylors Fire Department and was hired as a full-time firefighter on November 26, 1984.  Through dedication and exemplary performance, he rose through the ranks and, on March 9, 2001, at the age of thirty-seven, was promoted to fire chief, a position in which he served with distinction for twenty-five years; and

 

Whereas, Chief Baker earned the admiration and respect of his staff through his kindness, sincerity, and steadfast leadership, always placing the well-being of both the citizens he served and the personnel under his command at the forefront; and

 

Whereas, during his tenure as chief, he, alongside his dedicated staff and officers, played a pivotal role in advancing the department through numerous initiatives, including the construction of  Station 83 and the new headquarters, Station 81; modernization of the department's apparatus fleet; achievement of  Class 1 ISO recognition; implementation of centralized dispatch, automatic aid, and an EMT program; development of a technical rescue program; and encouragement of personnel to pursue specialized training and participation on county and state teams; and

 

Whereas, Chief Baker devoted countless hours to training and professional development, both on and off duty, and fostered a culture of continuous improvement within the department; and

 

Whereas, he and his wife, Angela Bradshaw Baker, have shared thirty-nine years of marriage and are proud of their beautiful family, including their eldest daughter, Brittany Carrizales and her husband, Miya; their youngest daughter, Caitlin Farthing and her husband, Travis; and their cherished granddaughter Eliana Farthing; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate deeply appreciate the commitment, leadership, and service that Chief Baker has demonstrated on behalf of the people of South Carolina and are honored to extend their best wishes as he enters a well-earned retirement.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Chief Bobby Scott Baker upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for his forty-one years of dedicated service, and wish him continued happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead. 

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Bobby Scott Baker.
