A senate RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE Retired U.S. Marine Colonel Claude H. Davis upon the occasion of his retirement as a NJROTC instructor at several schools, including at South Aiken High School for the last ten years, commend him for his forty-six years of distinguished service, and wish him much happiness and fulfilment in the years ahead.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Retired U.S. Marine Colonel Claude H. Davis upon the occasion of his retirement as senior naval science instructor from South Aiken High School on April 29, 2026; and
Whereas, a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Colonel Davis is an alumnus of North Carolina Central University and a distinguished graduate of the Duke University Navy ROTC Unit. He earned a master's degree in military studies from the Marine Corps University; and
Whereas, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Colonel Davis served in active duty for twenty-six years before retiring in 2006 as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Joint Prisoners of War / Missing in Action Accounting Command in Honolulu, Hawaii; and
Whereas, Colonel Davis has played an instrumental role in shaping future military leaders in the State, teaching at the Citadel from 1990 to 1993, and upon completion of his active-duty service, he began a fifteen-year career teaching Navy JROTC, serving at Summerville High School from 2006 until January 2013, at Conway High School from January 2013 until June 2016, and at South Aiken High School since August 2016, where he currently serves as the senior naval science instructor; and
Whereas, a civic leader, Colonel Davis has served with many community organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America. A proud Eagle Scout, he has been actively involved in the scouting community for over fifty years; and
Whereas, given his many years of distinguished service, Colonel Davis has received a number of honors and awards, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star in lieu of a second award, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of a third award, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and numerous other unit awards; and
Whereas, Colonel Davis has two children, Rusty and Amanda; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the passion and dedication that Colonel Claude Davis has shown in serving Aiken County, the State of South Carolina, and our great nation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize Retired U.S. Marine Colonel Claude H. Davis upon the occasion of his retirement as a NJROTC instructor at several schools, including at South Aiken High School for the last ten years, commend him for his forty-six years of distinguished service, and wish him much happiness and fulfilment in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Retired U.S. Marine Colonel Claude H. Davis.
