A senate RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Dr. Tyla Amoree McDowell upon the completion of her Doctor of Pharmacy and to Commend her commitment to Academic excellence and the field of medicine.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Dr. Tyla Amoree McDowell upon the completion of her Doctor of Pharmacy from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University on May 1, 2026; and
Whereas, a native of Columbia, Dr. McDowell was born to parents LaTash Adams and Edward McDowell III of Columbia and grandparents Columbia City Councilman Reverend Edward McDowell Jr. and the late Rhonda Jackson McDowell of Columbia and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Montgomery of Hopkins; and
Whereas, Dr. McDowell is a graduate of Spring Valley High School in Columbia and an alumna of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology. Dr. McDowell was actively involved on campus as a resident assistant and member of the Chemistry Club, Beta Kappa Chi Science Honor Society, and the Student Government Association. She joined the Gamma Delta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 2022; and
Whereas, in 2022, Dr. McDowell began her Doctor of Pharmacy at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida. A dedicated student, she completed infectious disease, managed care, ambulatory care, and advanced hospital pharmacy practice experiential rotations in hospitals throughout St. Petersburg and Bradenton, Florida. Dr. McDowell also studied in Seville, Spain during the summer of 2024 to learn how pharmacies partner with physicians to select therapies, monitor chronic conditions, and promote preventative health; and
Whereas, outside of her coursework, Dr. McDowell was active on campus as a pharmacy student. She served as vice president of the pharmacy program, a tutor in the College of Pharmacy, and a member of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association, the Sports Pharmacy Network Association, and the American Pharmacists Association's Academy of Student Pharmacists; and
Whereas, Dr. McDowell also worked as a pharmacy technician and intern at Walgreens Pharmacy and as a product development intern at Nephron Pharmaceuticals, gaining crucial professional skills; and
Whereas, a civic leader, Dr. McDowell has also served with many community organizations outside of pharmacy, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; RLEE Ideal, Inc. Mentorship in Columbia; the Salvation Army; St. Mark Baptist Church in Hopkins; Second Harvest Food Bank; and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Health Fair; and
Whereas, over the years, Dr. McDowell has received a number of honors and awards, including the CVS Pharmacy award, the National Diamondback Pharmacy Alumni Council Tampa Bay Chapter scholarship, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Emerald of Excellence debutante; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Dr. McDowell has shown to academic excellence and the field of medicine. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Tyla Amoree McDowell upon the completion of her Doctor of Pharmacy and to commend her commitment to academic excellence and the field of medicine.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Tyla Amoree McDowell.
