A senate RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Jeremy Clements for his success as a NASCAR driver and to commend him for his storied career in Racing.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Jeremy Clements for his success as a NASCAR driver; and
Whereas, a native of Spartanburg, Jeremy was born on January 16, 1985. He is the grandson of Crawford Clements, a famed NASCAR owner and renowned engine builder, and the son of Tony Clements, owner of Jeremy Clements Racing and operator of Clements Automotive, a company started by Crawford in 1965; and
Whereas, introduced to racing by his grandfather, Jeremy began his racing career at the age of seven in go-karts where he picked up forty-seven feature wins before successfully tackling the various ranks of dirt racing. Moving to modified and stock four-cylinders in 1999, Jeremy won fifty-nine races and three track championships over the next three years. His dirt experience proved beneficial in transitioning the determined teen to asphalt racing; and
Whereas, in 2002, Jeremy made his debut in the ARCA series, driving the No. 3 for Broadway Motors (Ken Appling) at Talladega Superspeedway. Jeremy was one of the youngest drivers to ever qualify for a NASCAR Nationwide Series event at age eighteen, racing for Jerry Young at Pikes Peak on July 26, 2003; and
Whereas, on July 24, 2004, Jeremy suffered an injury that threatened his racing career while running his No. 51 Late Model at 311 Speedway in Madison, North Carolina. He underwent eight surgeries and months of physical therapy to regain use of his right hand. In 2005, he returned to the dirt track, and, in 2006, he started ten ARCA races with three top five finishes and one top ten finish; and
Whereas, following several successful racing years, in 2011, Jeremy transitioned to the Nascar O'Reilly Auto Parts Series (NOAPS) full time and ran a full season driving the No. 51 for Jeremy Clements Racing; and
Whereas, over the years, Jeremy has had a successful career involving many notable wins and top finishes, including his second NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts series win at the famed Daytona International Speedway in 2022; and
Whereas, Jeremy will start his five hundred forty-eighth NOAPS race at San Diego this June. He will surpass the current record holder, Kenny Wallace, who has five hundred forty-seven; and
Whereas, all of Jeremy's starts, including Busch, Nationwide, Xfinity, and O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, have been in a Chevrolet; and
Whereas, Jeremy currently resides in his hometown of Spartanburg with his wife, Cortney; daughter, Kennedy; and their dog, Mollie. During the off-season, Jeremy enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Jeremy Clements has shown in his sport and look forward to a future of further accomplishments by the talented athlete. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jeremy Clements for his success as a NASCAR driver and commend him for his storied career in racing.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jeremy Clements.
