A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE Oconee County Habitat for Humanity UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS fortieth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND the organization FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE oconee COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Oconee County Habitat for Humanity as it celebrates this important milestone; and
Whereas, with the support of over two hundred volunteers, Oconee County Habitat for Humanity is the largest all-volunteer Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States; and
Whereas, since its inception in 1986, Oconee County Habitat for Humanity has built a total of one hundred thirty-six homes, housing one hundred sixty-eight adults and two hundred eighty-five children. The original families still live in over one hundred of these homes; and
Whereas, the original cost of these homes totaled nearly nine million dollars, and today these homes are worth over twenty-seven million dollars; and
Whereas, through the Holzhauer Education Fund, over two hundred grants totaling over one hundred seventy-six thousand dollars have been given to students for continuing education, which have enabled families to secure stability, health, and independence for themselves and generations to come; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of Oconee County Habitat for Humanity to serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Oconee County Habitat for Humanity upon the occasion of its fortieth anniversary and commend the organization for its many years of dedicated service to the Oconee community and the people and the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the leadership of Oconee County Habitat for Humanity.
