A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE Dr. Byron L. Battle Sr. UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS Fifth ANNIVERSARY AS PASTOR OF Tabernacle Baptist Church AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO HIS CONGREGATION AND THE Greenville COMMUNITY.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Dr. Byron L. Battle Sr. upon the occasion of his fifth pastoral anniversary on August 30, 2026; and

 

Whereas, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Battle was born on August 28, 1979, to Dr. James Battle and Mrs. Joyce Battle. He is an alumnus of Carolina Christian College, Midwest College of Theology, Hood Theological Seminary, and the International Bible College at Regent University; and

 

Whereas, Dr Battle began his storied career in ministry on March 31, 1998, when he preached his first sermon at Bethel AME Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. He later served as the college and young adult pastor, as well as the personal adjutant to the senior pastor, for nine years at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church in Winston Salem, North Carolina; and

 

Whereas, on August 3, 2013, Dr. Battle was elected as the fifteenth pastor of the Little Bethlehem Christian Church of Eden, North Carolina and was installed in December of the same year. For eight years under his administration, the church attained its 501c3 status as a corporation, several new ministries were added to the church, and technological and physical improvements were made to the sanctuary; and

 

Whereas, while pastoring Little Bethlehem Christian Church, Dr. Battle served as the moderator for the Piedmont District Convention of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ), which encompasses over twenty churches in North Carolina and Virginia, from 2018 to 2021. He also sat on the board of directors for the Region of Virginia for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served as a member of the Eden, North Carolina Ministerial Fellowship; and

 

Whereas, Dr. Battle was officially called to serve the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Greenville as their eleventh pastor in August 2021, and was formally installed on February 20, 2022; and

 

Whereas, a civic leader, Dr. Battle serves with many community organizations, including as a member of the Greenville Community Empowerment Team, the Baptist Ministers Fellowship of Greenville, the Clergy Council (GACE) for Bon Secours Mercy Health, and the A. J. Whittenburg School Improvement Council. He also serves on the board of directors for Homes of Hope Greenville, is the president-elect of the Greenville Civitan Club, and is the vice president for Pastors United for Action (PUA); and

 

Whereas, Dr. Battle is married to his wife Chantia, and together, they have three children, Byron Lamar Jr., Isaiah Xavier, and Princess Ashanti; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the ministry of Dr. Battle and his service to Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Greenville community.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. Byron L. Battle Sr. upon the occasion of his fifth anniversary as pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church and commend him for his many years of service to his congregation and the Greenville community.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Byron L. Battle Sr.
