TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR STEPHEN CRAIG BEHR SR., HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL AT FLORENCE COUNTRY CLUB SINCE 1996, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives has learned that Stephen Craig Behr Sr. will begin a well-deserved retirement after forty-five years as a golf professional, the last twenty-nine of which have been as the distinguished and highly regarded head golf professional at Florence Country Club; and

Whereas, he began his love of golf at an early age and was a two-time South Carolina Junior Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) champion in 1975 and 1977. He was the two-time South Carolina High School individual champion in 1975 and 1978 and a First-Team High School All-American in 1978. He was a member of the junior matches team for South Carolina vs. Georgia in 1978; and

Whereas, a four-time MVP on the College of Charleston men's golf team from 1978 to 1981, Mr. Behr served as an assistant golf professional at Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Cougar Point from 1980 to 1982; and

Whereas, in 1983, he began his career as a head golf professional in South Carolina, at the Links and Harbor Course for Wild Dunes Golf Resort on the Isle of Palms where he served for fourteen years, and then for nearly three decades at Florence Country Club, which was twice named South Carolina Country Club of the Year by the South Carolina Golf Association; and

Whereas, Mr. Behr has been a team member of the South Carolina PGA (SCPGA) Palmetto Cup sixteen times and qualified for the 2006 Verizon Heritage PGA Tour event at Harbour Town Golf Links. He was a four-time SCPGA Pro/Pro Champion and a two-time Carolinas PGA Pro/Pro Champion; and

Whereas, he has given back to the golf community with his time and talents, serving as a former vice president of the SCPGA, on the Tournament Committee of the Carolinas PGA, and as a teacher of over a dozen PGA workshops on calligraphy and scoreboards; and

Whereas, even more rewarding, he taught golf to his son, Stephen Behr Jr., who became the South Carolina Junior Champion in 2010, earned All-American honors at Clemson University in 2016, was a recipient of the Byron Nelson Award in 2016, and was the highest ranked Mid-Amateur Golfer in the World in 2020. Mr. Behr caddies for his son in the United States Mid-Amateur every year, and he and his son are the only father-son duo to ever play on team College Golf; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Stephen Behr as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace of the days ahead, and the members wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
