A house RESOLUTION

to recognize and honor celebrated performer Larry Ford for his distinguished career as an accomplished american musician and entertainer.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to commend and celebrate the remarkable career and achievements of the talented Larry Ford, whose unwavering dedication to music and entertainment has left an indelible mark on Charleston and across the globe; and

Whereas, Larry Ford was born on July 2, 1955, in Charleston, the son of Reverend Clarence Ford and Mildred Ford; and

Whereas, Ford's early musical influences were deeply rooted in his family, with his mother, Mildred, singing in the church choir, and his father, Clarence, playing the piano. Additionally, his older cousin, J.C. McClenon, who founded the band J.C. and the Entertainers before relocating to New York, played an instrumental role in nurturing Ford's musical aspirations; and

Whereas, Ford's formal music education began with his study of the clarinet, a talent he honed throughout elementary school and college. His talent earned him a competitive music scholarship to South Carolina State College, though he eventually pursued other passions. Ford moved to Atlanta, enrolling at DeVry Institute of Technology to study electronics, before transferring to Georgia State University to major in music; and

Whereas, Ford's career took off when he joined the funk band Early Warning System, where he showcased his talent as a keyboardist. He later collaborated with Harvey Whited Jr. and Mike Petty to form the Atlanta Connection, a band that toured Japan and performed in Osaka City for five months. Upon returning to Atlanta, Ford and his band toured with Brothers Cornelius and Sister Rose, further solidifying his reputation in the music industry; and

Whereas, Ford eventually returned to Charleston, where he became the organist for the Johns Island Parish, a role he continues to hold today. Over the years he has performed with several renowned bands, including The Abe White Affair, A Touch of Class Band, The Unit, and Beyond the Rhythm.  He currently performs as part of a duo with Abe White, Chris Williams, and Brenda Metoyer at some of Charleston's most esteemed restaurants. He remains actively involved with various bands and frequently contributes to studio recording sessions; and

Whereas, Ford has recently ventured into solo artistry, releasing his debut album A New Reality, produced and engineered by his longtime friend John Bercik at Sun River Studios. His dedication to music and diverse experiences continue to enrich the dynamic musical culture of Charleston; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives deeply appreciate the unparalleled talent and wide-ranging contributions of Larry Ford and are grateful for his invaluable impact on the music industry and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,
