A house RESOLUTION
to RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Lynn Stokes-Murray, Government Relations Director with Burr and Forman, LLC, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER almost forty YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Lynn Stokes-Murray for her significant contributions to lobbying in the General Assembly; and
Whereas, Ms. Stokes-Murray earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia College and began a career to impact policy for significant change, and she has enjoyed working with clients to advocate for meaningful legislation and collaborating with them to amend legislative policies in profound ways; and
Whereas, she has consulted with a wide variety of clients in the South Carolina State House, local governments, and corporate institutions for more than thirty-five years. Her intellectual influence has resulted in a wide array of victories: successfully lobbying to increase Beaufort County's appropriation of EFA dollars after the county had received none for five years, lobbying and passing the South Carolina Fairness in Civil Justice Act which established caps for punitive damages in civil lawsuits, increasing the budget for the state's adjutant general, and legislation to exempt taxation of pay to military retirees; and
Whereas, Ms. Stokes-Murray worked for over four years on legislation that resulted in mandated seat belts for front-seat riders in a vehicle. She serves a range of projects and clients: a state resource for advocacy and education for not-for-profit senior care providers and a multinational technology corporation that produces computer software, consumer electronics, and personal computers; and
Whereas, focused on South Carolinians and their best interests, she worked to secure legislation for economic development incentives for a regional bank seeking to increase its presence in the State significantly with the expansion of its corporate headquarters and successfully to defeat legislation that would have restricted counties and their ability to manage waste and recycle in their jurisdictions; and
Whereas, dedicated to positively changing her community, she currently serves as one of the education directors at Palmetto Girls State and is a member of the Columbia College Board of Visitors. She has provided leadership to the boards of The Advocacy Group, Nickelodeon Theatre, Trustus Theatre, Boy Scouts of America Steering Committee, the Girl Scouts of South Carolina - Mountains to Midlands, 100 Women Who Care in the Midlands, and she served as an ambassador of the South Carolina State Ports Authority. Her volunteerism was honored with the Medallion Award from Columbia College in 2014, and she was inducted into the Women of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of South Carolina; and
Whereas, grateful for her many years of distinguished service, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Lynn Stokes-Murray as she transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace of the days ahead, and the members wish her many years of enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Lynn Stokes-Murray, government relations director with Burr and Forman, LLC, upon the occasion of her retirement after almost forty years of exemplary service, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lynn Stokes-Murray.
